Children and youth are a vital part of our community and are encouraged to participate.
Religious Education
LOC offers preschool through elementary religious education for children. It is held on Saturday evenings at 5:00 concurrently with our weekly Mass. Children rejoin Mass in order to celebrate the Eucharist with the entire community.
Children’s Talk
Children gather with our pastor 10 minutes before Mass on Saturday evenings in the sanctuary by the back altar to share Scripture, a short lesson, and prayer. The Children’s Talk can also be heard by those participating online.
Grouth Youp
Our middle and high school youth group that meets throughout the year exploring prayer, scripture, and social justice. Youth are considered full participants at Light of Christ and share in all ministries.
Tuesday Tales
On Tuesdays during the summer, our pastor reads a children’s book and leads a prayer on our Facebook page. The video stays up after the live feed so that children of all ages can enjoy all week long.
Baptisms
Baptisms for infants and young children traditionally take place during our Saturday evening Mass. Parents prepare for this by meeting with the Pastor ahead of time for conversation. For older children and adults, preparation with the Pastor happens with the individual seeking Baptism.
First Communion and First Reconciliation
First Communion and First Reconciliation preparation classes are also led by the Pastor in small groups or with individual children and/or their families.
Confirmation
The Confirmation preparation program is led by the Pastor. Fundamentals of the faith and prayer are explored. Confirmation is generally celebrated at the Easter Vigil Mass for adults, or some other time for youth with our local bishop. Adults and youth prepare separately for this sacrament.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School is offered during the summer as a joint program with Bethlehem Lutheran.
